Ajit daily newspaper was first started as an Urdu weekly in 1941 in Lahore under the editorship of Ajit Singh Ambalvi. In November 1942 it became a daily newspaper. Later after independence, the newspaper shifted its base to Jalandhar in India’s Punjab under the editorship of Sadhu Singh Hamdard. In 1955, Ajit daily newspaper became Ajit Patrika and its language too was changed from Urdu to Punjabi. In 1957, Ajit Patrika returned to its original name Ajit.
